The construction of Kwoh-Ting Library was started in January, 1985 and completed in April,1986. Measuring in total 4,172 square meters, the library is a five-storied building with basement. In order to accommodate the school’s plan to upgrade to a full university, our library added a top floor and purchased considerable quantities of books, journals, databases, and audio/video materials. Currently, the area-in-use exceeds 5000 square meters. The library collections include 180,000 volumes of books, subscriptions of over 500 journals, 11,000 electronic journals, 3000 electronic books, and 7,000 multi-media items. The collection at the main library holds over 200,000 items. All other collections continued to increase steadily and rapidly.
Our library staff divided into the following units, Reader’s Services, Technical Services, System Information, Audio/Video Services, and School Archive. For the references of teachers and students, there are multi-media services area, internet searching area, reading rooms, periodicals room, references room, discussion rooms, and research rooms, and the stacks rooms.
To improve services to our faculties and students, the library added a leisure reading area and an internet services area on the school’s 30th anniversary (Nov. 30, 2002). We also joined the Taiwan EBook Net (TEBNET) on January 2003, making over 10000 volumes of electronic books available to our faculty and students. We are now planning English Corner and computer classrooms, hoping to benefit the school’s English and Information Education environment.
Currently, our library is striding into a new era of multi-dimensional digital services. In the future, we will continue to increase our holdings of electronic databases, e-journals, and digital, high-quality learning and researching environment. |
